Assaf Heffetz
has been active in the field of security for
over 40 years, mostly in senior command and
operational positions in the Israel Defense
Forces and Israeli Police Force.
Following his military service of 13
years in the Israel Defense Forces'
Paratroopers Brigade, retiring as a
battalion commander at the rank of
Lt. Colonel, Assaf Heffetz joined
the Israeli Border Police's elite
counter-terrorism unit. During the
years he commanded over this unit,
and in response to continuously
increasing terror threats, he |
|
developed innovative security
concepts for dealing with diverse
terror threats and
transformed the unit into a unique commando
task force highly regarded for its
operational effectiveness. His numerous
years in the IDF and participation in heavy
combat on many occasions assisted him in
redefining the unit's tasks, doctrines and
methods of operation. One of the most
well-known operations carried out by this
task force under Mr. Heffetz's command was
gaining control of a bus full of civilians,
which was hijacked by terrorists, and saving
their lives. The success of this operation,
in which he was wounded, earned him the
Medal of Valor.
Mr. Heffetz subsequently served in a variety
of high-ranking operational and command
positions within the Israeli Police Force,
including, for example, Commander of the
Central Intelligence and Investigations Unit
of the Tel Aviv district, where he headed
the task force unit in charge of fighting
organized crime and drug trafficking.
In 1994, Assaf Heffetz was appointed
Commissioner of the Israeli Police Force.
One of the most publicized operations
carried out under his command was the
successful conclusion of a highly complex
situation in which a large group of
lawbreakers barricaded themselves inside a
house in a residential neighborhood, heavily
armed.
During his term as Commissioner, the Police
Force was assigned additional security
responsibilities, which it had taken over
from the Israel Defense Forces, and
established several new designated units,
such as a unit responsible for protecting
educational institutions nationwide, and a
community police force operating in
residential neighborhoods throughout the
country.
Assaf Heffetz presently serves as the head
of an international security organization,
CMID, which provides security consulting
services to a variety of clients around the
world. One of the publicized large-scale
projects this organization has handled was
security consulting for the organizers of
the 2004 Olympic Games held in Athens.
Mr. Heffetz holds a BA degree in Criminology
from Bar-Ilan University, Israel. |
